FAQs

How far in advance should you start planning a trip?

In general, the best window for domestic travel is 1 – 3 months ahead and for international trips 2 – 8 months ahead of time. For very exclusive accom-modations and destinations, we would recommend up to 12 months in advance.

Why do we charge you for the initial proposal?

Planning a trip, even if it is only the first outline, is very time-consuming. We are sourcing accommodations, attractions, transportation, and activities as well as the approximate cost of the trip for you. Even if you decide not to work with us, you still receive your initial travel proposal.

Why do we charge a travel design fee?

Similar to the initial proposal fee, the answer is time. We invest a lot of time to plan your perfect trip and then carry out all the bookings and reservations for you and offer extensive customer service. Like most people, we prefer to be paid for our work. We decided to charge a travel design fee instead of just including our hourly rate in the travel package price to be more transparent. The fee is based on the actual amount of work that is required and com-municated in our second consultation call when we go over the initial pro-posal. Furthermore, airlines and many other partners we cooperate with (hotels, etc.) no longer pay commissions which makes the travel design fee even more important for us to generate revenue.

Is my bespoke travel package covered under the EU Package Travel Directive?

Yes. Voyageur Bohème is a German tour operator and therefore we have to comply with EU consumer protection laws and have a bankruptcy insurance as well as operational liability insurance that covers our customers. Together with your booking confirmation, you’ll also receive the risk cover-age certificate (proof of protection against operator bankruptcy). The risk coverage certificate enables you to claim your refunds, and in particular, return transportation from the travel destination when necessary. Booking a travel package from a German tour operator is possibly the most secure way there is to book travel.

What if I need to cancel my trip?

If you get sick – with covid or otherwise – right before your trip and you need to cancel, the general refund policy applies. We highly recommend travel insurance that covers this risk to get your full travel costs refunded. Travel insurance usually also covers other reasons for cancellation. The cancellation costs vary depending on the time until your departure and you can find further details in our terms & conditions.

Do you recommend travel insurance?

YES. We are cooperating with a great travel insurance provider and can provide you with a quote.

What is the best way to communicate?

Email communication is preferred but for the consultation calls we suggest a Zoom call as it is more personal and just more efficient.

Is it possible to make changes to the travel plan?

It is possible to adjust the itinerary up until we have agreed upon all the details and you’ve accepted our quote.

Is it possible to add travel services after the trip planning (booking) has concluded?

Yes, for this particular situation we offer concierge service. Just get in touch with us if you have any further wishes.

When will I receive my travel documents and final itinerary?

You will receive your travel documents and itinerary approximately 2 weeks before departure digitally (globally) and as a hard copy (only within the EU).

What is sustainable tourism?

Sustainable tourism should enhance the quality of life for residents and prio-ritize the protection of the unique sense of place that makes a destination special. Think of sustainable tourism as a model of development and less of a type of tourism.

How does sustainable tourism in practice look like?

It is no secret that travel has a heavy environmental footprint, particularly air travel. However, avoiding flying isn’t always desirable or practical.

Therefore, offsetting the carbon emissions is a good way to alleviate the impact on the planet. Choosing other modes of transportation e.g. taking a train is preferable. Some other steps to become a more sustainable traveler are:

  • Leave no trace
  • Avoid single-use plastic
  • Consider animal welfare and safety
  • Choose sustainable accommodations
  • Buy local
  • Travel slow (no multi-country trips)

How safe is traveling solo as a woman?

Unfortunately, it is still not safe for women to travel alone to just any country in the world. Nevertheless, there are quite a lot of countries where it is very safe for solo female travelers. As always, it is important to take safety pre-cautions, plan ahead and be mindful of situations and surroundings. Voyageur Bohème is happy to give advice to solo travelers as well as recommend resources.
